When coronavirus started in Wuhan, many residents have abandoned their dogs and cats. Now, these animals are dying due to starvation.
– Many dogs and cats have been left by the residents in China.
– This comes after they evacuated due to the coronavirus pandemic.
– These dogs and cats are now dying because of starvation.
According to Wendy Higgins, the director of international media at Humane Society International, in Wuhan alone, animal activists have assisted animals in more than 1,000 apartments. They believe that more cats and dogs have been abandoned in Beijing, Dalian, and Xi’an. The residents who were forced to leave these animals behind only left food and water that would be enough for the pets for just a few days. However, the evacuations have lasted more than a month so the animals are dying because of starvation. It is unclear how many of these animals have already died but it has been estimated that the animals left behind all over China could reach tens of thousands.
Many dog and cat owners have already contacted Vshine Animal Protection Association, an animal welfare and environmental organization that is based in China, and other organizations to check on their fur babies. However, they cannot always attend to these calls for help.
