#15 Peritas of Alexander The Great
Alexander the Great being a noble and a military commander, supported enormous numbers of hunting dogs and war dogs.
But at the present time just one dog is remembered clearly for its bond with the remarkable conqueror, and that is Peritas.
It is believed that Peritas was the personal dog of Alexander, accompanying him to war and in hunting. Plutarch said that Alexander had raised Peritas from a puppy and was very tender tohim.
Upon Peritas’ death, around 350 BC, he led a big funeral parade, held a proper burial and built a outsized monument for her. He directed the local residents to honor her death each year with festival.

The distressed Alexander created a city, which he named after the her. Peritas, belonging to the Molossus breed. These breed of dogs were an ancient fighting breed, and are now extinct.
They are strongly associated to contemporary dog mastiffs, and are considered relatives to the St. Bernard, the Newfoundland and other well-known dog breeds.
