This year’s “walk mascot” for the yearly Crown Walk for The Animals goes to a dog that has suffered incredibly severe burns. The dog’s condition was so terrible, in fact, that rescuers never thought he’d survive.
– Smokey the dog was found with 3rd degree burns when he was rescued.
– He was beside a tree, chained, when a fire on West Palm Beach occurred.
– His 3rd degree burns were so harsh that the bone in one of his legs showed.
According to Gregg Gordon, captain of Fire Rescue in West Palm Beach, Smokey was distressed.
Even when he was being saved and the chances of his survival seemed slim.
After two months, Smokey finally recovered, and was adopted by Dr. Katelyn Thomas, a vet intern.
The walk is sponsored by Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
