Some states have already legalized medical cannabis as well as CBD oil for dogs to treat their pain, anxiety, seizures, and more. American Kennel Club noted that there aren’t really any formal study as to the effects of dogs and if it really helps them.
Mark Verdino, the senior vice president and chief of veterinary staff at North Shore Animal League America, said that they also have no idea if CBD oil helps dogs but they now that dogs become less reactive to low level pain stimuli when they take the oil. Verdino uses CBD oil for his own dog and the dog no longer becomes jumpy in the evenings. Verdino said it is still best to use pet-specific products so that it has the specific amount of CBD oil that dogs need.
It is also unclear if there are risks but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not approve CBD use for both dogs and humans yet.
