A three-year-old dog from Toowoomba in Queensland has been under the care of scientists Julianne Farrell. She bought the dog because she wanted it to help her with her research in finding ways to detect the caterpillars that cause birth defects in horses and miscarriages in ponies. This was not successful.
Farrell then rubbed the scent of bed bugs on the training toys of the dog. The dog is able to retrieve these toys and gets treats in return. The dog remains to be trained in order to find real bed bugs in the future.
