Two local service dogs in Maine won the categories they were competing in at the 2020 American Humane Hero Dog. Now, the two dogs will be appearing on a Hallmark Channel special this coming fall.
– Two local dogs from Maine won awards at the 2020 American Humane Hero Dog.
– One won the 2020 Guide/Hearing Dog of the Year award.
– The other was named 2020 Service Dog of the Year.
The doggos are named Dolly Pawton and Aura. Aura is a seven-year-old Labrador retriever and golden retriever mix. The dog serves as the ear of Gretchen Evans. She is an Army veteran and could no longer hear because she was struck by a rocket blast when she served in Afghanistan. Aura helps Evans by alerting her of people at her door, text messages, and the like. Aura won the 2020 Guide/Hearing Dog of the Year award.
As for Dolly, who is a three-year-old Labrador, she was named as the 2020 Service Dog of the Year. She was specifically trained to detect the cardiac problems of her owner. She also helps pick up items for her owner.
