Some of the factors affecting this are delayed marriages, having children out of wedlock is socially unacceptable in the country, and maternity leave benefits are minimal. While the birthrate declines, pet ownership continues to increase. By September this year, it was actually shown that the number of pets surpassed the number of children aged 15 and under in Taiwan.
