According to a research in the United States, the stress levels of students could be reduced by spending time not only with dogs but with animals in general. However, the most common animal brought in by universities are therapy dogs. Patricia Pendry of Washington State University said that her study yielded results that showed a weekly hour-long session with a therapy dog made students feel relaxed and accepted. Hence, the possibility of dropping out was reduced. Also, the students who spent time with therapy dogs were able to concentrate more, learned better, and remembered more information.
In the United States, around 1,000 campuses use therapy dogs and other therapy pets. It has also become an increasing trend in the United Kingdom.
