A new study shared that they followed dogs and their humans for a number of months and compare the stress hormones in the animals and their humans. Lina Roth, one of the authors of the study that was recently published, shared that in following the 58 doggos and their owners, the humans had to answer questions regarding traits including extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism and openness. Hair samples were then taken from the humans and the doggos because this is where cortisol, which is the stress hormone, can be found.
Per the study, if the dog owner has high level of cortisol, that person’s dog also had high level of cortisol. The study also found out that anxious dogs do not necessarily mean anxious dog owners.
