Dogs are great at reading people’s feelings through their facial expressions. A new study proved this further by concluding that when humans smile at dogs, it does something interesting to their brains.

The study included eight dogs and scientists trained them to lie still while viewing photos of people with happy or neutral facial expressions.
The result that the scientists came up with was that when dogs see happy faces, it produces an increased brain activity in them.
In another experiment using the same dogs, their brains were scanned again as they looked at different photos of people. The happiness pattern in the dogs’ brains were so distinctive that it is easily picked out from the brain activities of the doggos.
The scientists then concluded that dogs know how to read human emotions and communication with their humans is important.
