You can’t avoid frustration when training your dog. Learn to control your frustration. If you can’t control it, stop with the training.
– Frustration is part of training
– Don’t vent out on your dog
– It is ok to stop training
Training a dog, whatever training method is used, brings a lot of frustration to you as a trainer. Correcting bad behavior takes time so you have to invest a lot of effort and time when training your dog.
The problem with frustration is, when it is left uncontrolled, it will eventually lead to an emotional outburst. Training a dog in an angry and forceful way will ruin your relationship with your dog.
If you are frustrated during training try to relax and remember to breathe deep. When things are not going well it is ok to stop the training and come back after you have already calmed down. If you still feel frustrated, end the training for that particular day.
It is okay to release your frustration but never on your dog. Shift your focus to another object or think about relaxing things.
