More and more companies are making robot dogs but one of the leading robot dog makers is Google. Recently, they revealed that a robot dog learned how to walk by copying a real doggo.
– Google decided to let their robot dog learn after real dogs.
– Now, the robot can walk like a dog.
– The robot dog can even chase its tail.
Accordingly, Google researchers were supposed to just code the movements of the robot dog but they decided to feed it videos of doggos. Because of that, the robot dog can already walk like a real dog and even chase its tail. The data gathered from the videos of doggos were fed into a simulator and it created a digital version of such movements. Although they succeeded in making their robot dog walk and chase its tail, one of the researchers, lead author Jason Peng, said that there is a drawback because the manual approach is “not really scalable for every skill that we want a robot to perform.”
This is not the first time that people who make robots have based movement via the real thing. Boston Dynamics’ robot dog was likewise modeled after a real dog. Their humanoid was also modeled after real people.
