A police dog and his handler were involved in a shootout over the weekend. Unfortunately, the dog did not survive his injuries.

The police officer and the police dog have been working with the Duluth Police Department. Accordingly, the police officer and the police dog were dispatched to a felony level domestic assault situation. Officers tried to deescalate the situation by negotiating with the man inside the house but he later began firing shots at the police force. This was the reason for the dog’s death. The handler was also injured.
One officer returned fire and the man was found dead inside the home. The police dog handler is now resting at home after being treated at a hospital.
