The doggo, named Jeru, was killed last September 2, 2017 after it was hit by a car. The dog was out on a training exercise when the unfortunate incident took place. The dog was rushed to the vet but there was nothing more that the vet could do.
The dog handler was devastated because he has been with the doggo for three years. This week, the police department finally gave two police dogs, Jeru and another police dog that was also killed in another car accident back in 2006, their plaques that were placed at a permanent memorial site as a reminder of the police dogs serving the community.
