In Salt Lake City in Utah, one of the police dogs that have done a great job while on duty was killed. The dog was fatally shot while doing his job.
– A police dog was doing his job when it was shot and killed.
– The dog tried to catch a suspect who ran away from cops.
– During the exchange of gunfire, the dog was shot.
The police dog that was killed was identified as seven-year-old Belgian Malinois named Hondo. He was born in Europe and became a police dog in Utah in 2015. In a statement by Herriman Police Department, they said, “These animals are not just pets. They’re a part of our family, they’re a part of our law enforcement family. And we grieve for their loss in the line of duty the same as we would an officer. Tragically, when a K-9 loses their life it’s because they did their job.”
The suspect is said to be one Brian Francis Filion, who had a violent criminal history. He was supposed to be arrested in connection to a homicide case. However, he ran away when he saw the police. The police dog then tried to catch Filion and he led the police to where he was. There was an exchange of gunfire and the dog was fatally shot. Filion was likewise killed.
