Are you fond of petting doggos? You might have been doing it your whole life, though. Here are the proper ways to make a dog feel loved and adored by petting them.
– Petting dogs could lead to you getting bitten.
– Some tips are you should pet the dog under its chin.
– Avoid giving a strange doggo belly rubs because…
Dr. Uri Burstyn, a veterinarian from Vancouver, shared that if you are trying to pet a dog and it becomes threatening, keep your hands curled as if you were chopping vegetables. Also, it is best to put your hands under the doggo’s chin. You should not go for the dog’s head immediately because it could be seen as an aggressive gesture by the doggo.
Ohio-based veterinary behaviorist Meghan Herron also said that it’s not good to touch a dog’s belly especially if you are a stranger. Some dogs actually show their tummy to people because they want to say that they are not a threat. This does not always mean that they want a belly rub.
Always pet the good spots of doggos, which are the lower back and the chest. Also, look for other signs that a dog is ready to interact such as tail wagging or if its body is loose and wiggly.
