– One dog owner had to…
One dog owner named John Crowe shared his story. He said that he contemplated taking money out of his retirement savings just so he could still care for his three doggos. He is a construction worker but his work load has been reduced due to the pandemic. He shared that he found a sanctuary called Lily’s Legacy and they were able to help find new owners for his doggos.
Another organization, called The Pet Fund, that provides funding for veterinary care for those who cannot afford it, said that they have received more than 200 calls and emails in just one day asking for their assistance. They cannot, however, help everyone.
Although many doggos are getting adopted because more people have started staying at home, it is estimated that 10 million pets could be displaced in the coming months because people might be evicted from their homes due to not being able to pay rent.
