The customers at the Orvis Company organized an Orvis Cover Dog photo contest that saw an active participation from several dogs and this helped raise nearly $1 million dollars for cancer research.
As per the National Canine Cancer Foundation website, the deadly disease affects at least one in three canines, and as per the statistics, over half of them will die due to cancer.

The response of the people has been awesome and numerous dog owners have sent their pet’s photo to participate in the contest. There have already been 50 winners up to date. The contest has not only helped raise funds but also helped them gain many supporters.
The Morris foundation is funding canine cancer studies at 11 major
colleges of veterinary medicine. Through Orvis’ support, the foundation
was able to develop a multi-college program designed to train
scientists; a more reliable test for predicting the spread of cancer; a
potential new treatment option for tumors that would improve the quality
and length of life for dogs; and technology that will improve
management of brain tumor cases and replace invasive tissue sampling in
the brain and elsewhere in the body
