The dog was tested because a member of the family of the doggo tested positive for coronavirus. According to the family, who took the dog to the North Carolina State Veterinary Hospital on August 3, they noticed that their dog was having trouble breathing. The dog was then taken to the Raleigh facility and shortly thereafter, the doggo passed away.
Despite this, health authorities reiterated that pet-to-person and pet-to-pet transmission remain to be not a concern.
