Medical students at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine are beyond stressed because their finals are comping up. Therapy dogs were then brought to the college in order to help these students destress.

The college’s associate director of the Panther Learning Communities (PLC), Jessica Lewis, said that they have been thinking about bringing therapy dogs to school for a while now and they finally did it.

The students met the therapy dogs during lunch time.
It is believed that medical students, residents, and early career physicians are more stressed and burnout than those who are already practicing in the medical field.
This finding was published in 2014 in the journal Academic Medicine. Other studies also found out that therapy dogs are great for these group of people. Interacting with dogs reduce blood pressure and anxiety. Dogs also stimulate memory.

PLC also provides medical students with activities for destressing such as aroma therapy, cooking, and yoga.
