Twenty-year-old Mycayla Mitchell of Owensboro just received her new service dog, a 19-month-old Goldendoodle named Bentley. The dog will help Mitchell with her daily seizures.
– Twenty-year-old Mycayla Mitchell finally got a service dog.
– The dog is a Goldendoodle and has been training for more than a year.
– The doggo will be helping Mitchell…
Mitchell was diagnosed with polymicrogyria, a condition that creates excessive folding in the brain and an abnormally thick cortex. She has been having seizures since she was just three months old. The dog was trained in Florida after the Mitchells picked the doggo to be their service dog. They paid a deposit of $6,500 and raised the remaining money in the next 19 months so they can take Bentley home. Now that Bentley is with Mitchell, he still has to bond with her so that he can really assist her fully.
The family thanked everyone who donated and they hope that the service dog will really provide Mitchell with a better quality of life. The mother of Mitchell shared of how the dog will help their daughter, “The ideal goal is for Bentley to alert her when she’s about to have a seizure, so she can get to a safe spot.”
