Are you thinking of giving a French bulldog or a pug to someone special this Christmas? Stop thinking about it because a veterinarian has pleaded to people not to give these dogs away as Christmas presents.
According to Lindsay Hamilton, there has been an increase in the demand of this breed resulting to health problems and deformities.
Hamilton said the increase in the number of these types of dogs stretches as far back as 15 years ago and the breeding process has since been irresponsibly done in an attempt to meet the demand.

Hamilton pointed out that these dogs can no longer pant, exercise, eat, or sleep properly because they have smaller airways compared to other dogs.
This claim of Hamilton was backed up by Dr. David Sargan, a senior lecturer at Cambridge University.
Sargan said that these types of dogs are mistaken as being cute when they make loud snuffling or snorting noises or when they sleep sitting up. Dog owners should understand that these are signs their dog is having problems with their breathing.
The advice of Hamilton and Sargan? Get other breeds of dogs as a pet- those that could basically breathe.
