Aside from hurricanes, dogs left behind during other extreme weather or natural calamities will also be held liable. Senator Joe Gruters filed the bill and noted that those who will leave their dogs unattended or restrained during the natural calamities will be punished for up to one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000.
Gruters said that they want to give doggos a fighting chance. The Senate Agriculture Committee voted unanimously on the measure last Monday. It is unclear when the next voting would be.
