As the demand for doggos increased during this pandemic, many have taken advantage of the situation. Some steal doggos and use them for intensive breeding. Once they get what they want from the dog, they hold the dog as ransoms so the dog owners will give them money.
– There has been an increase in the demand for doggos since the pandemic started.
– Because of this, premium breed dogs are being stolen for intensive breeding.
– Also, these dogs are being held for ransom.
According to Detective Superintendent Neil Austin, this is an organized crime. These people who steal premium breed dogs and use them for intensive breeding are cashing on the demand for doggos. They usually sell these dogs from £500 to more than £2,000.
One dog owner revealed that she received videos from the people who stole her two doggos, who are both female springer spaniels. She revealed, “I’ve even had videos posted to me with ransom demands, messages from children and I can hear them being coached what to say in the background. It was quite terrifying. But to pay them would simply encourage more thefts.” She already got one of her doggos back after suspects were raided by the police. The other dog remains missing and she just hopes she can get the doggo back.
