The latest rescued dogs are now receiving veterinary treatment. They are also given proper food and attention. Four of the rescued dogs have been placed with foster homes.
Accordingly, the rescue was initiated by Humane Society International. One of their missions was to combat and later end the dog meat trade in South Korea. Since 2015, they were able to shut down a total of 17 dog meat farms. They have also found homes for over 2,000 doggos in the past.
Many animal welfare groups locally and internationally have also worked with dog meat farmers to shut down their businesses and encourage them to look for more humane businesses. Humane Society International’s Companion Animals Vice President Kelly O’Mera shared, “We permanently shut down the farm, demolish the cages and they have to sign a contract that they will never be involved in the dog meat or any animal agriculture of any kind ever again.”
