As of now, the animals are with Delta Animal Shelter. They staff at the shelter were the ones who worked together with Michigan Staet Police Gladstone Post and Delta County Sheriff’s Office to remove the animals from the puppy mill. There were 65 doggos rescued and most of them were pregnant. Sixty-nine were puppies and 20 were horses.
A call about a horse led the authorities to find the puppy mill. A trooper shared what she saw after they received the call, “I saw the kennels with all the dogs. I could see some were emaciated; I could see their ribs through their skin. I smelled the strong odor of dog feces. And that’s when I began my investigation.”
The dogs were already vaccinated, de-wormed, and treated for fleas. More will be done to the doggos in the coming days. The horses will also soon be evaluated by veterinarians.
