The president of the Ottawa Dog Rescue, Andrea Valois, took to Facebook to post the photo of a doggo named Archie, whom she coined as a “Christmas mistake.” She added in her post, “When you’ve lost 96 pairs of socks and all of your kids’ toys are chewed and you don’t know how to train a dog – that’s when we get the call.” Valois said that Archie is now looking for a new home but he is currently being fostered by a volunteer. Archie had to be surrendered because he will grow into a large dog and the couple to whom the dog was gifted said they believe the dog needs a family or a person who has an active lifestyle and they are not the right fit.
The Ottawa Humane Society reiterated that when they know that the dog adopted from their shelters will be gifted, they will not grand the adoption. The society’s president and CEO said that the adopted should really be ready to take on the responsibility of being a dog owner to avoid having another Archie surrendered to shelters and rescue organizations.
