According to reports, the dog handler and the police dog were deployed to an area regarding reports about burglars over the weekend. A teenager later emerged from his hiding place and attacked the police dog named Stark. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male. Despite the attack on the police dog, he still helped the handler detain the attacker.
The police dog, a German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, immediately underwent surgery to treat his wounds. He was hit mostly on both sides of his face. The veterinarians who worked on the dog said they are thankful that the dog’s eye was narrowly missed and they believe the animal will be back on duty soon. The handler shared in a statement, “We’ve been together for 18 months now and are very much a team. We look out for each other. Stark did a great job and it’s a huge relief he’s going to be OK.”
The dog has to rest at home for the next two weeks before going back to work.
As for the attacker, he has been arrested but remains at a hospital because of the dog bites.
