A doggo was recently sworn into the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. The dog, named Hatty, a two-year-old black Labrador, will be providing support to children victims of sexual assault.

Accordingly, Hatty was trained to help provide the necessary comfort and relaxation when the victims are in the courthouse or are giving their testimony. The dog is expected to handle around 150 to 200 cases annually. In a statement by the Cook County Office regarding the doggo being part of their team, they noted that they are “proud to have a resource like Hatty” because the victims will be able to “navigate this difficult process.”
Hatty is actually the first ever therapy dog and was trained by inmates. The dog was under the care of a group called Duo. They provide assistance dogs and is a training organization in the Missouri area.
