A dog shooting in Martinsburg, West Virginia has sparked an investigation by authorities. The incident took place on Thursday.

According to reports, the doggo that was shot fought with a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy K-9. The doggo that was shot reportedly escaped its home after it climbed over their fence and that was when it had a fight with the police dog. The dog handler tried to stop the fight between the two dogs but did not succeed. Not long after, the handler discharged one round from his firearm and struck the other doggo in its leg.
The dogs were later given medical assistance. Both are expected to recover. However, the shooting by the deputy will still be investigated.
