A dog was part of many search and rescue operations with the Miami-Dade Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team to try and find missing people due to natural calamities or even those who were killed in Iraq. The dog, a yellow Labrador Retriever, has been with her human partner for more than 10 years but recently passed away.

The dog was supposed to celebrate her 15th birthday but died more than a month before. The husband of the dog handler said that the dog was initially trained to rescue those who are still alive but they realized that they wanted their dog to do more – find those who have died in order for their families to have closure.
The ashes of the dog will be spread in a pond in its family’s property.
