An assistance dog trainer named Rebecca Forrest shared in a post for The Dog Clinic that dogs use their paws to communicate and if they do that, they usually want attention. She added, “Dogs thrive on human companionship. We’ve bred them to be dependent on us for everything – including fun and social interaction – so they aren’t shy about letting us know they’re feeling neglected.” It could also mean they are hungry, insecure, or stressed out.
If you are already showing your dog some love and giving it the attention it wants and it still paws you, it might mean they are showing you they love you. Forrest said this is their way to reciprocate to their humans the love that they received.
