Max, a 17-year-old Australian Cattle Dog stayed with his 3-year-old girl when she became lost in the mountains of Queensland, Australia last week (April 2018). Despite being completely deaf and mostly blind, Max was able to get the girl settled and seek help.
Police and family spent hours searching for the girl who had wandered away from her grandmother’s house to no avail. At the same time, Max was seeking them. A day after she’d been reported missing, her grandmother heard the little girl’s voice and it was Max who led the woman to the child.
As is the nature of his breed, Max had begun shepherding the child back towards her house. He camped out with her and made sure she was safe until she could be found.
For his loyalty, local police in Queensland made Max an honorary police dog.
