The teenager is from Scotland and she said that she was grieving because her dog of 14 years just died. On the same day, she called her employer and told them she cannot go to work because she was too devastated over the loss of her doggo. She was told to find a replacement for her shift but she was unable to do so. After that, she got fired on the ground of gross misconduct.
The dog owner then launched an online petition regarding the compassionate leave to cover the death of pets. The signatures are now close to 10,000. The teen added in a statement regarding her petition, “It’s time companies acknowledged this and give people the time they need to grieve, with no worry of losing their job.”
