The incident took place in Victoria. The dog owner said she had to play dead and just wait for the mauling to stop. The kangaroo is believed to have thought that it was being attacked so it did what it had to do to save itself.
Accordingly, the attack took place meters from a local walking track. Kangaroos in the area are said to be coming closer to residential areas due to lack of food and water in the wild because of the dry conditions.
The dog owner is aware her dog caused the attack. There are signs in the area saying that dogs should be on a leash when being walked. Also, a Councilor said that people should be extra vigilant over the summer because of the presence of the kangaroos.
