One of the problems as to why some dogs remain for a long time at shelters is because of their dog breed. It is urged now that if you want to adopt a dog, you must ask about a dog’s behavior rather than being more concerned about a dog’s breed.

A research about this was recently published in the journal PLOS One noted that many shelters actually name the dog by their breed most of the time. Because of this, it could affect the possible adoptability of a doggo under their care. Nine hundred dogs were used as the sample and after getting DNA samples, they compared the genetic information they gathered and the breed labels by the shelters. There was an inaccuracy of 67 percent.
One dog from one of the shelters was labeled as a pit bull and the waiting time for the dog to get adopted as compared to other dog breeds was three times longer.
