One of the most common reasons why your dog is biting its nails is because it is trying to groom itself especially when its nails are already long and its making your fur baby uncomfortable. However, another reason might be more serious that is why you should also ask your vet about it.
– Dogs biting their nails could mean they are suffering from allergens or anxiety.
– You should take your dog to the vet for checking.
– You can also wash your dogs’ paws whenever they come from outside.
Accordingly, dogs biting their nails could be due to many serious reasons like allergies, skin condition infection, or even anxiety. A medical director at Goodheart Animal Health Center shared, “Toes and paws certainly have skin issues – it’s a common place for us to see them.” The medical director pointed out that since doggos’ paws touch everything, the nail biting might be caused by allergens they have picked up while walking around. As for anxiety, if you see your dog biting its nails and cowers or paces around the house, you should also take your dog to the vet.
If you cannot take your dog immediately to the vet, you could take your dog to a groomer and get its nails clipped or rinse their paws whenever they come from the outside.
