At first Barrett Duke does not have any heart for pets because he never grows up with any of them. However, when he meets Rusty, everything changes. Rusty simply touches his heart.
He realizes that Rusty is not just an animal. He is intelligent with certain personality. When he lost Rusty, it seems like he has lost a family. Because of this, Barrett has changes his perception about God’s creation. He even searches through the Bible.
