A boy has diabetes and his monitoring device failed to alert him while he was at school a year ago regarding his blood sugar levels. To avoid that from happening again, the family decided to get an alert dog.
– A boy’s monitoring device failed to alert him of his blood sugar levels getting low a year ago.
– The family then decided to get an alert dog.
– The dog has been given the name…
The 10-year-old boy has Type 1 diabetes and he just received his alert dog from Diabetic Alert Dogs of America in Las Vegas, Nevada. The dog is a golden retriever and it was trained for seven months. The dog was trained for commands and scent identification. The dog already knows the scent of the boy by heart and is trained to alert the boy whenever the latter’s blood sugar levels is low.
The doggo has been given the name Lucky. To be able to afford the alert dog, the community helped raise $23,000. The family is very thankful because their “mind can maybe actually not be on Type 1 diabetes for 10 minutes and let the dog kind of do his job.”
