The founder of Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Nuala Geraghty, is being hailed a hero. She provides highly trained dogs to aid kids who are in the spectrum of autism.
– Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland hopes to help more families.
– There are a lot of people in their waiting list waiting for the guide dog to help kids with autism.
– A dog’s training and placement costs €15,000.
The charity was set up in 2010 and she said that they have had around 1,000 calls since early this year from families who have been asking them for a dog. They could not place all of them in the waiting list as there are already too many families waiting for their assistance doggo to be given to them.
Geraghty said that they do not receive any funding from the government and they need around €15,000 just to train a dog and place them in a family. They hope that the government will support their organization in order to help more people.
