A recent study was conducted by the Washington State University and the scientists found out that cuddling and stroking a dog or a cat reduces a person’s cortisol levels, which is a major stress hormone. The study was inspired by Pet the Stress Away programs all over college campuses in the United States. The study involved 249 college students and they interacted with cats and dogs in different ways.
To further back up their findings, the team is examining a four-week-long animal assisted stress prevention program. They hope to find long-term solutions to those who have high stress levels by using dogs and cats.
